Microsoft Purview: Information Protection-Auto-labeling for legacy Office files
Microsoft Purview will extend server-side auto-labeling capabilities to legacy Office file formats (.doc, .xls, .ppt) in SharePoint and OneDrive, enabling automated sensitivity label application to older documents that were previously unsupported.

Microsoft Purview server-side auto-labeling will support legacy Microsoft Office file formats, including Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), and PowerPoint (.ppt). Organizations can automatically evaluate and apply sensitivity labels to these files in SharePoint and OneDrive.
