Dynamics 365 Field Service: Track costs for non-billable field work
Dynamics 365 Field Service Work Orders can now be connected to projects for cost tracking of non-billable field work (maintenance, inspections, internal operations) without requiring a customer contract. This provides centralized labor, material, and expense cost visibility for internal operations.

Organizations often use the same field teams for both customer work and internal operational work, such as maintenance, inspections, or asset-related activities that are not billed to an external customer. These scenarios still require scheduling, technician execution, and accurate tracking of the labor, materials, and other costs associated with the work. With this capability, Field Service Work Orders can be connected to a project that serves as the financial container for the work. Technicians continue to plan and execute through Field Service, while supported labor, material, expense, and other costs are captured against that project for centralized cost tracking. This gives organizations a consistent way to manage non-billable field work and understand its total cost without requiring a customer contract simply to connect the Work Order to a project.
